The focus of URA’s draft masterplan 2019 for the West Region is to transform live, work, play in the West by providing creative urban solutions and infrastructure to enable more pleasant living and working environment.
Key highlights include :
The Future of Work
Jurong Lake District (JLD)
This Jurong Lake District will be the largest mixed-use business district out the city centre, and is envisaged to become the second Central Business District (CBD) of Singapore. It will also encompass a leisure and recreational component to harness on its lakeside and garden setting.
Jurong Innovation District (JID)
The Jurong Innovation District is envisioned to be a vibrant industrial ecosystem for advanced manufacturing and technology sectors, with thriving industry-academia collaborations. It will be served by six future Jurong Region Line stations.
This next-generation Port is expected to be fully operational by 2040s, with the ability to handle twice the volume of the current Ports. Factories and warehouses located in Tuas and Jurong can look forward to, and benefit from the faster turnaround time that this new Port offers.
Living and Playing Amidst Nature
New housing and communal facilities will be sensitively integrated with the lush greenery, near parks and nature corridors. These will encourage biodiversity, and enable residents to enjoy a quality and healthy living environment.
Works on green spaces and waterways have begun, and the public will be able to get close to nature for recreation and leisure. The first phase opening of the Lakeside Gardens in April 2019 brings nature closer to homes, with the rest of the Jurong Lake Gardens to be opened progressively from 2021 onwards.
